Tutorial 5 of 7

Export, share and back up boards

Beginner 6 min

Saved boards, project files, standalone HTML sheets, filtered exports, share links, Google Drive and handing files to other apps.

Pageboard keeps your boards in this browser. This tutorial shows how to keep them safe and how to show them to other people.

1. Saved boards

Every board you edit is saved automatically. File → Saved boards… lists them with the number of references and the time of the last change; the open board is marked. Open switches boards, Delete removes one after a confirmation. File → New board… starts an empty board – the current one stays in the list.

Browser storage can be cleared by you, by cleanup tools or by the browser. Keep a project file of every board you care about.

2. Project files

File → Download project file (Ctrl+S) saves the board as <name>.pageboard.json, including screenshots, notes and the moodboard. File → Open project file… (Ctrl+O) opens such a file again – on this or any other device. You can also drop a project file onto the board.

The format is documented at /project.schema.json on the Pageboard site.

3. The Export dialog

Export… in the top bar groups everything:

  • Whole board → Editable JSON – the same project file as above.
  • Whole board → Standalone HTML – a single read-only page with your cards, notes, tags and embedded screenshots. It opens in any browser without Pageboard and loads nothing from the internet; links open only when clicked.
  • Filtered selection → Selection as JSON / Selection as HTML – only the references that match the current filters. The selection is taken when the dialog opens. Filter first, then export, to share just part of a board.
  • Moodboard → Moodboard PNG – an image of the moodboard.

All exports contain your screenshots and notes. Check them before you send them to anyone, and share screenshots of other people's websites only where you are allowed to.

Tools like the Reference Board Planner return an Open in Pageboard link that carries a whole board after #project=. Opening such a link loads the board and saves it under Saved boards.

Open in another app in the Export dialog hands the board JSON or the moodboard image to another usefulweb.site app in this browser – nothing is uploaded. The other way round, an image sent to Pageboard opens the reference editor with that image as screenshot, and a Pageboard project sent from elsewhere asks before it opens.

5. Google Drive

Signed-in visitors who connected Google Drive see Save to Drive, Open from Drive and Auto-save to Drive in the top bar. Drive stores the same project file; the accessibility review is not included.

Next: Review the accessibility of your pages.
